Precision trimming for a titanium implant cup.
Finepart evaluated a precision cutting step for a titanium cup used in a bone grafting system developed by Gösta Ullmark AB.
The application
The implant concept required a controlled edge on a titanium cup. In medical production, geometry, material integrity and traceability make the cutting method an important part of the quality chain.
Why Finecut was evaluated
Micro abrasive waterjet offered a cold, mechanical cutting process for trimming the titanium component without adding a heat-affected zone to the edge.
How to use this case today
The case demonstrates process relevance for medical components. A current project would require a new application review, test cut and validation against the applicable quality and regulatory requirements.
Historic application note: specifications and results reflect the machine configuration and test conditions used at the time. New applications are verified through a current test cut.
