Historic application · Precision components
Thin stainless shims compared with wire EDM.
A historic Finepart test evaluated a 1 mm stainless-steel shim and documented cycle time, geometry and tolerance.
The application
Thin shims can require controlled geometry while remaining flat and free from thermal influence. The tested profile combined a relatively large outline with precision requirements.
Historic result
The published Finecut test recorded a cycle time of 9 minutes 52 seconds and an operational-time reduction of 87% compared with the wire EDM reference used in that evaluation.
Current decision path
Cycle time and achievable quality depend on geometry, material, setup and acceptance criteria. Finepart therefore confirms present-day performance through a current test cut.
Historic application note: specifications and results reflect the machine configuration and test conditions used at the time. New applications are verified through a current test cut.
