Capability beyond W-EDM.

LBY Tech added Finecut to extend its manufacturing offer beyond conductive metals—opening a cold, precise route for carbon fibre, mixed materials, non-conductors and thin components.

The capability gap

LBY Tech is a family-owned manufacturing company with capabilities in toolmaking, contract manufacturing, turning, milling and waterjet cutting. Wire EDM was already an established process for high-tolerance work, but its dependence on electrical conductivity left important applications outside the available process window.

Carbon fibre, mixed materials and other non-conductive materials required a different method—without giving up the precision and flexibility expected by LBY Tech's customers.

02

A complement, not a replacement

Finecut expanded the process portfolio alongside the company's existing machines. The cold, tool-free process made it possible to produce prototypes quickly, cut thin precision components and approach material combinations that W-EDM could not process.

“It offers opportunities to produce prototypes fast and thinner details with high precision.”

A wider offer, backed by support

By adding Finecut, LBY Tech could offer a broader manufacturing scope and address a wider market. The value extended beyond the machine itself: service capacity, spare parts, training and ongoing support were important parts of the supplier relationship.

The case demonstrates how micro abrasive waterjet can strengthen a contract manufacturer's existing process portfolio while preserving the role of W-EDM where it remains the best fit.
