Finepart compared Finecut FAW300 with wire EDM on a 6 mm aluminium component for a microwave application.
The comparison
The same application was assessed for throughput, tolerance and surface condition using Finecut and the wire EDM reference available in the historic test.
Historic result
Finecut recorded a tolerance of ±0.030 mm and surface roughness Ra 2.3 µm; the W-EDM reference recorded Ra 3.5 µm. The reported times were 9 minutes 33 seconds and 128 minutes respectively.
